Heading for Bishopbriggs

Post by Deepol » Mon Sep 23, 2013 1:21 am

Dave Menzies sent me this from the Ron Scholten Collection of Coronation car 1220 on the 25 route to Bishopbriggs. Sadly there's no detail of the exact location of the photo.so if anyone can place it I will pass it on.

That is a pub in the background if that is any help.
The last word on the vertical sign is "Ales" If you look closely at the name above the pub the first three letters of the second word look like "SPR".
At a wild guess, given that the tram is heading for Bishopbriggs, I would suggest that the tram is heading along Springburn Road.

Thanks Duncan, that could be it indeed. I'm sure there was a Springburn Bar or similar, a favourite haunt for railaymen. I'll pass it on.

Paul.
I was going to say that the exact style of tenements were in Keppochhill Road at the junction of Springburn Road but Albert has me on the hop. No doubt it's the OLD SWAN (INN?) but I think the other lettering is of SPIRITS rather than SPRING......

On Google you can even see the marks where the white sign was fixed to the pub wall. Fascinating!
