160 years ago, John Barr & Co built the PS LOCHGOIL at Kelvinhaugh, Glasgow.
By 1871 John Steele & Kenneth McCaskill were running PS LOCHGOIL pleasure trips from Glasgow to Greenock, Kilcreggan, Cove, Blairmore, Ardentinny and Lochgoilhead. Not surprisingly, you would have been brought back in the afternoon and all for the price of a shilling. Yes, 5p! For another sixpence you could splash out on the cabin fare.
I remember when 1/6d was a significant amount of money but that had to be some bargain even then.
