Ayr Departure 1987
Post by Colin Campbell » Thu Aug 14, 2014 7:29 pm
Taken in Ayr in the days before Elf & Safety. Walk round the dock on 21/04/1987. Twenty seven years ago...phew.

In these days it was a rare day when there wasn't a Kelly or Robertson boat in at Ayr, they had a monopoly on the coal export trade, mainly Ireland. Hard worked ships, quick turnarounds, plenty 'soojeeing' down, invariably rough weather in the Irish Sea, not a job for the faint-hearted.
BALLYKERN (IMO 7413945) was originally the Turnbull & Scott vessel BAXTERGATE before being acquired by Kelly in 1980. She was built by E. J. Smit of Westerbroek, Netherlands (Yard No. 808) with keel laid on 06-05-1975, vessel launched on 07-11-1975 and completed on 22-01-1976.
Tidy looking vessel, 1,598 tons gross x 3,109 tons deadweight.
1990 - became the LANCING
1997 - became the AL FAROUK
2001 - became the HAROUN
2002 - became the MARMARA M
Went to Aliaga for breaking in April 2013
