Minna at Troon

Noticed the MInna being towed into Troon on Saturday. Lovely smooth sea for them. The Minna ended up in the drydock I believe.
Looks front end heavy from these pictures :)

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

I have found a couple of links to the City of Adelaide at Greenwich . One is a picture site new to me, Zimbio, and the other is on the Australian ABC TV news web site. Sorry about the length but they go straight to the correct area without having to go through a site search. http://www.zimbio.com/pi...

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

There was a short item about the renaming ceremony on the BBC London TV news and there is a link to this video clip at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24587476 There was more talk than ship footage but still worth a visit. The http://www.CityofAdelaide.org.au web site has a good picture ...

Captain David Muir - information sought

I wonder if anybody can shed some light on the shipping company or ships my wife's great grandfather , Captain David Muir, served with. he was born in Irvine, Ayrshire, in 1825 and we have his Certificate of Competency as a Master issued by the Board of Trade in Glasgow 26/27th of May, 1851. The num...

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Would be interesting to know why they did a triangular back flip between 8 am and 9 am to then finish up heading towards the Thames. Sea conditions maybe ?? See AIS.

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Successful exit this afternoon. Very smooth with the Countess pulling and the Dutch Pioneer with a slack cable bringing up the rear. Out at sea the Countess let go the cable and then picked up the several deck hands on the barge. It then dropped the Dutch Pioneer crew and made her way back to Troon....

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Checking the AIS I saw that the tug had moved out to the sea side of the bridge and so thought it worth while running up to Irvine just in case. There had been a fair bit of work left over from Saturday and as I thought the tug is being used for its hoist to lift and position the blue workers cage t...

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Talking ( eavesdropping ) to the project video cameraman he is working on a possible departure Friday evening at 6 or maybe the Saturday morning. The Australian project leader told us Friday at the earliest when I went down on Wednesday. There appears to be a lot of welding to be done as at Thursday...

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Went down to Irvine Harbour this morning while shopping. The Dutch Pioneer has moved back into the harbour to its old berth. There are more steelworks being unloaded and there is the smell and sound of welding.

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Looking at the excellent pictures posted this afternoon ( wish I had been there ) IMHO I reckon the Troon tug did most of the pushing while the Dutch Pioneer used its bow thrusters to keep the combination in the correct line. Little if any white water from the Pioneer's stern but some turbulence fro...

Camera Kite

Yes , it was a camera kite. The nice man attached at the ground end showed me his setup. Only took " 15 years and £(lots) to develop " he said .

If he is there today ( Monday) I will ask where we can see his pictures.

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Irvine High Tide

According to the BBC tide tables the high tide at Irvine today ( Monday ) is at 1519 this afternoon . I assume they will start preparing for the move a couple of hours or so before this to allow a decent operating window .

If I am wrong please correct me :D

Hope this helps.

Re: TUG & BARGE FOR IRVINE HARBOUR.

Some pictures of the offending blue utility boat that was supposed to keep the barge heading in the right direction. It will be interesting to see if they use the same boat or get a more powerful helper :D
