The Guild
On Monday, 1st March, we had the privilege and pleasure of taking a picturesque trip through parts of Israel with our speaker for the evening, Chrissie Baillie. She and her friend went on an organised coach tour, visiting many of the sites where Jesus may have travelled, including His birthplace in Bethlehem. There were plaques and signs indicating the various places mentioned in the Gospels which may have been the actual spots where events took place, as they can't be certain.
There was a marked contrast between the parts of Israel which are still as they were in Biblical times, and the modern buildings which have grown up alongside them.
Thank you to Chrissie for a most informative evening and to her assistant Stuart McMahon, who very kindly helped with the showing of the photographs.
The Clyde Coast Fiddlers, a group of twelve musicians, under the direction of Mrs Margaret Turner, entertained us with their excellent repertoire on 8th March. We were delighted to be joined by some friends from other local churches, otherwise there might have been more people on the platform than in the audience. It was a varied programme of Scottish fiddle music and songs, interspersed with well-known pieces from shows and music hall. We were encouraged to 'sing along'. The singing was, of course, of very high quality!! Photographs can be seen on another page.
There was no guild meeting on Monday 15th March as Ardrossan Presbyterial Spring Rally was taking place at St. Margarets, Dalry on Tuesday 16th March. We had four representatives attend to hear Rev Alan Garrity speak and show slides of his time spent in Bermuda.
On Monday 22nd March, Elizabeth Howie showed her photographs of her trip to India with friends from the Trefoil Guild.
It was an informative talk on various aspects of Indian culture. Her photographs were excellent, as was her clear and concise explanation of each part of the tour. We again had the pleasure of welcoming Stuart McMahon, using his technical skills in assisting Elizabeth to put out her programme.
Our final meeting of the session was our AGM which was held on Monday 29th March, a light supper was served after the formal part of the evening.
