We would like to thank Clydeport for allowing volunteers from the Ayrshire SOC and North Ayrshire RSPB Groups to carry out remedial work on the hide inside the Hunterston coal terminal.
Work on the first new floating island is now completed and it is hoped that this will encourage terns to nest in the Spring. A second island is also under construction.
A recent bird count (mid-November 2007) produced the follwing records:
12 Heron, 141 Wigeon, 11 Greenshank, 9 Goldeneye, 97 Mute Swan, 5 Whooper Swan, 32 Redshank, 2 Tufted Duck, 250 Oystercatcher, 4 Red-breasted Merganser, 44 Dunlin, 2 Turnstone, 15 Curlew, 10 Dabchick, 8 Mallard.
