Sunday School

As in recent years,we continue to use Scripture Union materials as our Resource. We find them most successful, encouraging the children to think deeply about Religion/Culture and to take part in a variety of discussions.

Once a month we try to have a social evening for the children in the church hall - this has included a Wii games night, watching dvd's and making helping to make topical gifts (eg Christmas, Easter etc).

It really is hard to believe that it is nearly the summer Holidays, but this good weather has given us a taste of good things to come, hopefully! So as this is the last month of our session we will revisit a selection of our themes throughout the year by drama , music, quiz, one of our young peoples favourite activities, and by the retelling of the stories. As usual there will be a creche throughout the Summer and a list for volunteers will be available soon.

What a great result, The Rag Bag Appeal you will now know we collected 187 bags weighing 731 kg and raising £219.30 for the Project Fund. Well done everyone, maybe we should do it again next Spring, it's a great way to make you really have a thorough review of what we really need in our homes and in our wardrobes and we know its helping others as well as our own cause.

Thanks again for continuing to hand in old Glasses, last week I took another 49 pairs to Yvonne at Specsavers and they were very grateful for our ongoing support. Keep up the good work, its unfortunate that they are unable to take Bifocals and Varifocals, maybe someday.

What a great day we had on the Millport Challenge we set off from Barony St. John's at 10am on Saturday 22 May, got the ferry at Largs at 11am and as they say it was plain sailing from then on, some of us cycled and some walked in the glorious sunshine round the Island and what a beautiful island it is, we met many people, some sponsored, some just doing it for pleasure and some obviously doing it for the exercise. It was great to see so many families and people of all age groups out enjoying the good weather.

When we arrived at the Garrison we registered and having completed our course we received our Certificate and Medal and a Goody Bag, after a rest and some refreshments we then took part in the Treasure Trail where we followed the clues and had to make up 3 Words with the letters we found at each destination, this was the hardest task of the whole day but thanks to Megan and Pauline we found the solution 'The Millport Challenge' and we all received a lollipop for our efforts.

By now we were ready to make tracks for home obviously the cyclists cycled to the Ferry but the rest of us caught the Bus!! We enjoyed the short sail to Largs making us wish we were on a cruise. Then from Largs it was home after a very enjoyable and worthwhile day which I'm sure we will repeat again sometime.!t was a day that went without any hitches and that was thanks to KA Leisure for organising it.

As we did last year we plan to collect the Shoe Boxes for Blythswood mid October so now is the time to start collecting items when there are so many BOGOF offers. More information will be available soon on Notice Board.

As you can see we really are a caring community not only do we support our own Church but we help to take care of others who are not so fortunate as ourselves. Thank you all for your support to our many ventures throughout the year.

We hope you have an enjoyable summer with sunshine all the way and return refreshed for another year of activities!
